How to turn a TikTok recipe into a written recipe
TikTok recipes are made to be watched, not cooked from. The quantities fly by in a voiceover, the steps are cut to the beat, and the caption says “recipe below” with nothing below. Here’s how to end up with something you can read at the stove.

Why TikTok recipes are hard to cook from
- The recipe is in the audio. Many creators say the quantities and never write them down.
- Favorites is a pile of videos. You can sort favorites into collections, but finding one recipe still means scrolling and rewatching.
- Pausing and rewinding with flour on your hands is nobody’s idea of cooking.
The manual way
- Turn on captions, if the video has them, and pause on each step.
- Type the ingredients and steps into your notes app as you go.
- Check the comments. Someone has often typed the recipe out, or the creator pinned it.
It works, but it takes longer than the video, and you do it again for every recipe.
The automatic way: share it to Postfolio
- In TikTok, tap Share (the arrow) on the video.
- In the row of options, tap More to open your phone’s share list, and pick Postfolio.
- About a minute later you have a written page: the ingredients with quantities, then the steps in order.
Postfolio reads what’s said, what’s written on screen and the caption together, so a recipe that only exists in the voiceover still ends up on the page. It’s written in your language, even when the video isn’t.
After you save it
- It’s filed for you, next to the recipes you saved from Instagram and YouTube.
- Edit it freely. Halve the quantities, note that it needed more salt.
- Find it by meaning. Search “the spicy noodles” or “something with cottage cheese”.
- It stays even if the TikTok is deleted.
Questions
Can TikTok transcribe a video for me?
Many videos have auto-generated captions, which help while you watch. They don’t give you a written recipe you can keep, edit or search later.
What if the recipe is behind a link in bio?
Open the link and share the page from your browser to Postfolio. It reads recipe sites and blogs as well as videos.
How many recipes can I save for free?
The free plan reads 10 saves a month, Pro reads 100. Links that can’t be read are kept with their thumbnail and don’t count.
